The crescent visibility map below for Jumada Al-Akhira 1444 (RHS) shows that the moon will be born on 23 December 2022 at 10:17 GMT/UT, but it will not be visible by the naked-eye anywhere in the UK to Morocco (MA) region on that date. However, on 24 December 2022 the moon will be easily visible in Morocco but not in the UK until the next day. Hence, the month of Jumada Al-Akhira is likely to start from 25 and 26 December 2022 in MA and UK, respectively, InShaAllah.

Not seen after sunset: On 24 Dec 2022, ICOUK member Mr Juned Patel from Hunstanton City in the Norfolk County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Binoculars or Naked-eye or Telescope.
Mr Juned Patel commented: "I managed to see the moon with a CCD camera without using any filter, with minor enhancement on the computer live screen. Unfortunately, I could not see with telescope, or binoculars and had no time to try with DSLR Camera. Obviously, I did not see with unaided eyes. I did see Venus very earlier on in the sky using binoculars as it was higher in the sky than the position of the moon. It can be seen in the picture too. Regarding the weather, it was almost all UK was cloudy but, Norfolk was 210 miles away from my house, it was forecasted to have a clear horizon. Although it was cloudy on the way, the clouds started fading away and cleared within a few minutes I got there, Alhamdulillah. The last 1.2° [altitude above the horizon] remained covered in clouds all the way from sunset till moonset. I saw the moon going down until then on the CCD camera".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was partly cloudy in York today (24/12/2022) before sunset but became cloudy soon after sunset (Rufforth Airfield) where the moon was expected, so it was not seen by the naked eye or binoculars".

Mr Hatim El-Harrak commented: "In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. This evening, Saturday, 24 December 2022 AD, the crescent moon of Jumada al-Akhirah 1444 AH was seen with the naked eye and captured with the camera. According to the official announcement of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Morocco, the start of Jumada Al-Akhirah is tomorrow, Sunday, 25 December 2022 AD. May Allah bless us and you in peace, faith, safety, Islam, and good luck for obedience".

There were eight other people with me, seven of them were Moonsighting for the very first time and all got to witness the UK crescent, Alhamdulillah".

Mr Sameer Ali commented: "We first went to Revington spot and then to Anglezarke Viewpoint. We waited for some time and then decided to drive home as there was heavy cloud cover. However, we were fortunate to spot the moon through a gap in the clouds when driving back home".

Mr Qasim Abbas commented: "On Sunday 25th a group of families and observers went out to sight the hilal from Cambridge Central Masjid [to Romsey Recreation Ground]. Many people were present from families to Imaams of Cambridge Central Masjid and other masjids. [Submitted on 29/12/2022- Admin]".

Ms Shemanara Haq commented: "The sunset time was 3.42 pm and the moonset was 5.56 pm for Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Sr Julie has seen the hilal 5 mins before sunset with binoculars and then immediately with the naked eye. I also sighted hilal with Sr Julie and another non-Muslim sister and 2 Muslim children at Magrib time and thereafter. The photos were taken with iPhone 12. The first photo was taken before sunset at 3.30 pm and the second photo (of hilal) was taken at sunset time".
Saltburn-by-the-Sea (Brotton)

Ms Julie Breen commented: "The crescent was located prior to sunset with binoculars and subsequently seen with the naked eye both prior to and after sunset [the photos were taken with iPhone 14]".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "We had a moon sighting training course today (25/12/2022) at UKIM York Mosque (between Zuhar to Asar) and then a group of us went to Rufforth Airfield in the outskirt of York to sight the moon. We saw it immediately after sunset at 3:54 pm GMT and continued to see it after Maghrib prayer in the field for another half an hour before it went into the clouds. There were eight of us in the field, and everyone was very impressed to see the Hilal in totally cloudy weather (through a break in the cloud), Alhamdulillah".

Announcement for start of Jumada Al-Akhira 1444 AH
On Saturday 24 December 2022 (29th Jumada Al-Ula 1444 AH) the Hilal of Jumada Al-Akhira 1444 was not sighted in the UK but it was sighted in Morocco. We have also received a positive sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).
Therefore, the start of the month based on the Regional (UK – MA) and Local (UK-only) Moon Sighting criteria are given below.
Regional (UK - MA): the month of Jumada Al-Ula 1444 AH will have 29 days and the month of Jumada Al-Akhira 1444 AH will start from Sunday 25th December 2022, InShaAllah.
Local (UK-only): the month of Jumada Al-Ula 1444 AH will complete 30 days and the month of Jumada Al-Akhira 1444 AH will start from Monday 26th December 2022, InShaAllah.
