Mr Ahmed Makda commented: "Thick cloud coverhead. Out in distance there wasn't but there was a haze of cloud over the west coast where the ribble estuary is and where the direction of moon set was expected".

Mr Juned Patel commented: "On Saturday, 17th of October 2020 (29 Safar 1442 AH) between 18:00 to 18:55 (Sunset 18:08 & Moonset 18:49) at Location: Edge Hill Rd, Bolton, UK; I attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Rabi-al-Awwal. I was not able to sight the Hilal, the western horizon was completely covered with very dense clouds".

Mr Shakil Qureshi commented: "It was a clear sky at my location but unfortunately no Hilal was sighted. I can only assume this was perhaps because I was a little late going out, therefore maybe I missed it? I will try again tomorrow In Sha Allah".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was totally cloudy before and after sunset today (18/10/2020), even though there was a very good chance to see a 46 hrs old moon easily by the naked eye. Most of the UK was also cloudy, except some areas of Wales and Scottish Higlands (which are mostly inhabited)".

Announcement for start of Rabi-ul Awwal 1442 AH

On Saturday 17th October 2020 (29th Safar 1442 AH) the Hilal of Rabi-ul Awwal 1442 was not sighted in the UK, but it was sighted in Morocco region. We have also received a positive sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).

Therefore, the month of Safar 1442 AH will have 29-days and the month of Rabi-ul Awwal 1442 AH will start from Sunday 18th October 2020, InShaAllah.

Note that Saudi Arabia do not normally make any official Hilal Sighting announcement from Safar to Shaban (as they usually follow the Ummul Qura Calendar in these months).
