It reminded me of my previous observation of sunset in Makkah when the sun sets behind the dark hazy horizon about half hour before the actual sunset time. It was good education to all those present. A lesson in moonsighting. At that point when I saw the sun disappear before the dark horizon and I knew we will not be able to sight the Hilal, even with the optical aid. Mr Imad Ahmed commented: "Seen by others: An amateur astronomer, who is not a Muslim, saw the moon with binoculars! She saw the moon by herself at 21:49 in Minehead. It was a Yallop Code 'C'. She could see the moon with binoculars, but not by naked eye. She tried to take a picture through her telescope, but the moon disappeared by the time she was able to get a shot of it! I personally spoke to her at length, ascertained the time, and the orientation of the moon. Everything was as we would expect it to be. She went up to a high location above sea level, with equipment, and saw the sunset, noted its location, and searched for the moon".

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "The two of us (myself and Abdulrazaq Abba) went to our sighting location about half an hour before sunset and estimated the sunset point. Unfortunately, there was a thick low-lying cloud on the horizon so the sun disappeared about 10 minutes before sunset. It became totally cloudy after sunset so the 27 hours old moon was not seen, even with binoculars. However, we have confirmed report from Morocco with positive sighting. Eid Mubarak to all Muslims, whenever you decide to celebarte it (Friday 31st July 2020 or the next day)".

We had dug these two sticks in the ground to use for sighting after sunset. On the horizon there was a patch of clouds which made it very difficult to sight the moon. Announcement for start of Dhul Hijjah 1441 AH
On Tuesday 21st July 2020 (29th Dhul Qa'dah 1441 AH) the Hilal of Dhul Hijjah 1441 was sighted in the UK to Morocco region. We have also received a positive sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).
Therefore, the month of Dhul Qa'dah 1441 AH will have 29-days and the month of Dhul Hijjah 1441 AH will start from Wednesday 22nd July 2020 (making Eid-ul Adha to be on Friday 31 July 2020), InShaAllah.
Significance of Dhul Hijjah (first 10 days)
1. Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "There are no days during which the righteous action is so pleasing to Allah than these days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah)." He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah?" He (ﷺ) replied, "Not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah, except in case one goes forth with his life and his property and does not return with either of it." (Bukhari, Book 9, Hadith 259)
2. Abu Qatadah (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) was asked about the observance of Saum (fasting) on the day of Arafah (9th of Dhul Hijjah). He said, "It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year and the current year." (Muslim, Book 9, Hadith 260)
