Not seen after sunset: On 16 Apr 2018, ICOUK member Shaykh Sulayman Gani from Croydon City in the Greater London County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Shaykh Sulayman Gani commented: "We came to Pollards Hill to do the observation of the crescent moon for the month of Sha'baan 15 minutes before sunset. It was already cloudy on the Western horizon so we could determine the exact location of the setting of the sun. The 6 of us observed the Western horizon with the aid of the very powerful binoculars. We report a negative sighting".


York

Not seen after sunset: On 16 Apr 2018, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from York City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "I went few miles outside York (away from inner-city light pollution) to a farmland to look for the Hilal of Shaban or at least the sunset. Unfortunately, the western horizon was fairly cloudy so the Hilal was not seen, neither the sunset (see photos)".

Not seen after sunset: On 16 Apr 2018, ICOUK member Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel from Abha City in the Asir County (Saudi Arabia) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel commented: "Not seen. At the observation point below left of sunset and Venus, the sky was clear. The crescent moon was not seen".

Not seen after sunset: On 17 Apr 2018, ICOUK member Dr Nazish Ashraf from Bolton City in the Manchester County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Dr Nazish Ashraf commented: "Observed after sunset, unfortunately sky was completely overcast".

Not seen after sunset: On 17 Apr 2018, ICOUK member Dr Feras Tuma from Cardiff City in the Wales County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Dr Feras Tuma commented: "It was very cloudy, I was unable to view the moon".

Mr Ali Khan commented: "Unable to sight due to weather conditions".

Not seen after sunset: On 17 Apr 2018, ICOUK member Mr Makbul Jaffer from London City in the Greater London County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye.

Mr Makbul Jaffer commented: "It was very cloudy with no gaps [in Mill Hill area]".


Seen after sunset: On 17 Apr 2018, ICOUK member Eng Suleman Aboo from London City in the Greater London County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Partly Cloudy, the crescent was Seen by Naked-eye.

Eng Suleman Aboo commented: "The weather was very cloudy at Wanstead Park (East London). Allhumdullilah the crescent was clearly visible for only a minute before it was covered by the clouds again. Mr Yakub Atkins commented: "Viewing done on Upton Lane nearly adjacent to Upton Lane Masjid which is across the road from the sixth floor in a block of flats. Photo one was taken shortly after Maghrib. Photo two taken later when clouds were moving across the sky very quickly.".

Not seen after sunset: On 17 Apr 2018, ICOUK member Eng Qamar Uddin from York City in the North Yorkshire County (United Kingdom) mentioned that the sky was Totally Cloudy, the crescent was not seen by Naked-eye or Binoculars.

Eng Qamar Uddin commented: "It was totally cloudy in York on Tuesday 17/4/2018 but the cloud was moving with the wind so a group us (including Br Saad and Br Majed Al-Zahrani) went far out to the York Astronomical Society Observatory to sight the moon. We saw a bright star (Venus) next to the position of we expected to see the moon, but unfortunately, a thick bank of cloud was sitting on top of the moon nearly 1 hour until moon set time, so we could not sight it. However, someone else from our local mosque reported sighting it from his house! ".

Announcement for start of Shaban 1439 AH

On Monday 16th April 2018 (29th Rajab 1439 AH) the Hilal of Shaban 1439 was not sighted in the UK/Morocco region. We have also received a negative sighting report from Morocco Awqaf Ministry (login to view).

Therefore, the month of Rajab 1439 AH will complete 30-days and the month of Shaban 1439 AH will start from Wednesday 18th April 2018, making 15th Shaban to be on Wednesday 2nd May 2018 (i.e. from the night of Tuesday 1st May), InShaAllah.

Note that Saudi Arabia do not normally make any official Hilal Sighting announcement from Safar to Shaban (as they usually follow the Ummul Qura Calendar in these months).
